born 1976
Leigh Davis was born in 1976 in the town of Shrewsbury, but grew up in Broseley and Much Wenlock in Shropshire. He studied Silversmithing and Jewellery in Birmingham between 1995 and 1997, and then completed his Honours Degree in Wolverhampton in 1999 studying ceramics, woods, metals and plastics. Whilst studying ceramics he discovered his love of sculpture, producing aerodynamic forms in porcelain. After his degree he continued producing sculptures, and later focused on painting. Leigh has a particular fascination with the deconstruction and isolation of forms and focal points within the landscape. The results are a creation of abstract paintings that capture the atmosphere of the scenes. Many of his paintings are of the countryside around his home in rural Shropshire, the rolling hills surrounding Much Wenlock, the dramatic coastline of the Gower Peninsular and the rich and varied coastline of the Isles of Scilly which feature heavily in his work.
