Kingdom Red 1996

Cockrill’s first solo exhibition was held in 1984 in London.  He rapidly established an international reputation, with subsequent solo exhibitions being held in Dusseldorf and with Bernard Jacobson both in London and New York.  A retrospective was held at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool in 1995 and a further retrospective at the Royal West of England Academy in 1998.  Cockrill’s work has been included in many group exhibitions throughout Europe and in Australia.

Kingdom Red is part of the major groups and series of Cockrill’s paintings produced in the 1990’s including Wheat, Generation and Portable Kingdom. It relates closely to one of his most monumental compositions Scarlet Progress.
