Peter Haigh (1914-1994)

1914 Born 5th October, near Huddersfield, Yorkshire

c1925 Won Open Scholarship to Holgate Grammar School
Holidays spent on uncle's farm in Pennines. Drew and painted landscapes.
1929 Sold his first painting aged 15
c.1931-32 Trained as textile sample dyer.
In 1930s he travelled the length and breadth of England, drawing, painting and writing.
1939 Volunteered to serve in World War II.
1939-45 Army war service largely in the Far East
c.1946 Studied briefly at Heatherleys School of Art under Ian Macnab
c.1947-50 Goldsmiths'School of Art. here he met Patricia Taylor, his futurewife.
1952-53 Financed by Art Collector, a Director of Shell, to go abroad and
paint in Sanary-Sur-Mer on the French Riviera
1954- 94 Lived in London
1957 Started working at Savage Framers
1958 Married Patricia Taylor
1960 Opened up his own frame-making and gilding business in Fulham
1963 Daughter Sheila born
1979 Retired and began to paint full time again

1994 Died in December at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital
