Born in Cheshire and studied at Manchester College of Art from 1962 - 1967 followed by two years at the Slade. Solo exhibitions at the Whitechapel Gallery in 1972 (21 June - 16 July) and 1975 (4 November - 21 December) were followed with a major solo exhibition at Marlborough Fine Art in 1984. In 1989 he was awarded sculpture prize at Gloucester College of Art. A sculpture by John Davies is in the permanent collection of the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester.
