Primarily a landscape painter, Henry Inlander was born on 14 January 1925 in Vienna. He lived in Trieste between 1935-8, before settling in England in1938; becoming a British citizen in 1947.
He studied at St Martin's School of Art 1939-41, Camberwell School of Art 1945-6 and at the Slade School 1949-52 under Coldstream, Rogers, Pasmore and Gowing. At the end of this period, he won a Rome Scholarship in 1952.
His first one-man exhibition was at the Galleria La Tartaruga, Rome, 1953; his first in London at the Leicester Galleries in 1956. He was awarded Premio Acitrezza, Sicily, 1958 and a Harkness Commonwealth Fellowship to the United States1960-1961.
Many group and solo shows have been held in Britain and abroad. The Tate Gallery, Contemporary Art Society and the Arts Council all hold his work.
