The delicate sea washed forms of Breeze hint at its coastal connection. Painted in Ballard's homeland of Cornwall, this painted montage of overlapping forms references the shells, pebbles, drift wood and boats found by the seaside.

Breeze is more representational than many of Ballard's works. These often seek to reinvigorate the language of abstract Constructivism in pursuit of well-ordered composition, yet here the forms of observable reality are retained.
