Painted during Copnall's fourteen year residence in Spain, Siguiriya No.2 relays something of the artist's love of the expressive rhythmic beat of flamenco. Ripped hessian projects in two dimensions something of the music's raw sensuality, whilst the regulated geometric planes echo the heavy punctuation of zapateados or foot-tapping beats. Copnall's systemisation of these earthy hues in to a grid-like formation parallels the strict stylisation of this passionate Spanish dance.

Siguiriya No.2 conveys more than the sensational experience of engaging in this regional dance, it encapsulates the flavour of the Costa-del-Sol. Copnall's use of multi-textured and colour-saturated planes reference the sun-bathed aridity of the land surrounding his home in Benalmadena. The insertion of blue into the composition hints at the artist's close proximity to the sea.
