Mauritius-born of Irish and French descent, the abstract painter Frank Avray Wilson was at the epicentre of international developments under the general informalist, tachiste and abstract expressionist banner. While sharing in the Zeitgeist that threw up impastoed and strongly-coloured lyrical abstraction, Avray Wilson contributed work with an individual intonation, one betraying a scientific background and marked philosophical mindset.
