Study for Rape of the Sabines is one of a series of paintings and drawings that Ceri Richards produced for the iconic oil painting of the same title that is currently hanging in the collection at Pallant House Gallery, Chichester.

A popular and recurring subject in paintings; according to Roman legend, Romulus invited the neighbouring Sabine tribe to a festival during which he abducted the Sabine women and brought them back to Rome to provide his mostly male citizens with wives.
