Canney was pre-occupied with constructivist principles and their relationship with mathematics and geometry.

In Zig Zag he blends hard edged composition with rustic relief and thick textured paint.

These 1960's works were to lead to later experimentation and production of white reliefs of pure and balanced form and surface.
